In Ayurveda, Gout is known as Vata Rakta. This is also a disorder of metabolism. In gout, large amount of uric acid is present in the blood which results in the inflammation of the joints. Gout is a form of arthritis. It happens due to the toxins which build up in joints due to poor digestion and a weak colon.
CAUSES AND SYMPTOMS
The most common cause of gout is heredity. In most of the cases of gout, heredity is seen. People who are not much active and lead a more sedentary life style are more prone to this disease.
The disease is characterized by severe pain in muscle joints an inflammation of the joint issues and inability to bend fingers, toes and other small joints. Since increase in uric acid is the main cause of the formation of gout, the reasons for the increase of uric acid are:-

MEDICINES AND PRESCRIPTIONS
The following ayurvedic medicines are helpful in treating the problem of gout.
- PANCHATIKTA GHRITA GUGGULU – This is the first drug of choice and the most recommended ayurvedic medicine in treating the gout. Two teaspoons full should be mixed with warm milk and should be taken on an empty stomach two times in a day.
- KAISHORA GUGGULU – After some relief is seen from the above mentioned medicine, this should be taken. The dose should be two tablets, three times in a day.
- SHALLAKI – This is very beneficial in reducing pain and swelling in joints. It also helps in increasing blood supply to the joints and speeding up the formation of cartilage.
- ASHWAGANDHA – This helps in reducing the inflammation in the muscles. It is also helpful in improving the blood circulation.
- PINDA TAILA or GUDUCHYADI TAILA – This oil should be applied on the affected part externally.
There are also certain home remedies which are very beneficial in curing the gout.
DIET AND OTHER REGIMEN
- A vegetarian diet is strictly recommended for the patient suffering from gout. The diet should consist more of fresh fruits and vegetables.
- Fried foods and fatty substances, sour items like curds and alcohol should be avoided. White breads and other processed foods should also be avoided.
- Items like old rice, garlic, bitter gourd, papaya and green banana are beneficial. The patient should drink as much water as possible. The patient should also not suffer from constipation. A mild laxative may be given to relieve constipation.
- The patient should not be exposed to cold and should also avoid cold baths. Light exercise is recommended but heavy exercise should be avoided.
