Tuberculosis is known as Rajayakshma in ayurveda. . The lungs are generally affected by this disease. However, the lymph glands, the intestines and the bones can also be affected by Tuberculosis. Tuberculosis or TB is one of the most contagious diseases among humans.
CAUSES AND SYMPTOMS
Tuberculosis is caused by a bacteria called as Tubercular bacilli. This bacteria is present in the human throats. But according to ayurvedic principles, TB is caused due to two factors.
- VITIATION OF THE TISSUE ELEMENTS.
- IMBALANCE OF THE DOSHAS.
When the tissue elements get vitiated, the Doshas become imbalanced. The four reasons for the doshas to get vitiated are :-
- Too much of physical exertion.
- If natural urges are suppressed.
- Over indulgence in sexual activities.
- Irregular food habits.
The symptoms of TB are as follows.
- Irritating cough particularly in the morning.
- Fever in the evening.
- Blood discharge in the cough.
- Night sweat is also seen.
- Improper sleep.
- Constant tired feeling.
- Loss of weight and appetite.
MEDICINES AND PRESCRIPTIONS
Ayurveda takes care of TB in two steps. First, the digestive system of the patient is made healthy. Second, the treatment to cure TB.
Chyavana prasha and Drakshasava are given to the patient for increasing digestion
CHYAVANA PRASHA & DRAKSHASAVA
These two are very effective Ayurvedic medications for boosting the digestive process. Also, Chyavana prasha is very helpful for treating tuberculosis. Chyavana prasha is also prescribed for all patients suffering from heart diseases.
Dosage: Two teaspoonful with a cup of warm milk twice daily on empty stomach.
Dosage: 30 ml of Drakshasava mixed with an equal quantity of water should be given to the patient.
AYURVEDIC DRUGS FOR TREATING TUBERCULOSIS
Pippali, Vasa, Lasuna and Naradiya mahalakshmi vilasa are the ayurvedic drugs used for TB.
Dosage : One teaspoonful of Pipali should be mixed with an equal quantity of honey and should be given to the patient thrice daily.
Dosage : The medicated concoction mixed with milk should be given to the patient twice every day.
SVARNA VASANTA MALATI
Gold and pearls are the main ingredients of Svarna Vasanta Malati.
Svarna vasanta malati is recommended for patients who suffer from tuberculosis along with a burning sensation, sweating in the palms and the soles along with night sweating and fever
NARADIYA MAHALAKSHMI VILASA
Naradiya mahalakshmi vilasa includes gold as one of its primary ingredients. Patients suffering from cold and chronic bronchitis are recommended this.
Dosage : The patient should be given 0.200 gram of Naradiya mahalakshmi vilasa mixed with honey thrice daily.
The patient is given juice of the Vasa leaves. This controls the burning sensation in soles and palms, and also checks cough.
Dosage : The juice should be mixed with a teaspoonful of honey. 30 ml of this juice is given to tha patient four times daily.
For dry cough accompanied by fever at night and weakness
|All the three things must be taken with amla juice thrice daily.|
In case of high temperature
|All the things must be taken with honey in morning and evening.|
|These should be mixed with honey and used as a linctus.|
For blood filled phlegm
|All these should be taken with honey thrice daily.|
|All the things should be taken morning and evening with goat’s milk.|
DIET AND OTHER REGIMEN
- Dried fruits, especially dried grapes and almond oil are very useful.
- Goat’s milk, flesh and even urine are useful.
- Curd, banana, guavas should be avoided.
- Hard physical or mental exercise should not be done.
- Sexual intercourse should be avoided as it can worsen the condition.
