Angina (angina pectoris) occurs due to insufficient supply of blood and oxygen to the heart. This may lead to dizziness, temporary nausea, burning or squeezing pain, tightness and heaviness in the chest. The pain may also radiate to jaws, neck, back and shoulders. It warns of the problems of the coronary artery disease.
Severe angina may even lead to sudden cardiac arrest or heart attack and angina should not be taken casually.
Here are some preventive measures to control Angina:
Food that lower cholestrol
People with angina must keep their blood cholesterol under control. Cholestrol accumulates in the arteries and restrict blood flow to the heart. The normal cholesterol should be below 200 and the low density Lipoprotein (LDL) also known as the BAD CHOLESTEROL should be as low as possible. Fibre rich food
Fibre intake should be increased. Fibres found in wheat, corn, rice bran(whole grains), leafy vegetables, fruits prevent cholesterol from passing through the intestinal wall into the bloodstream.
Antioxidant in all forms should be taken to prevent cholesterol from getting oxidised to become plaque. Vitamin C and vitamin E help prevent cholesterol from oxidation and getting accumulated in the arteries.
Lemon Juice + Honey
Add juice of 1 lemon and 2 table spoon of honey in a glass of warm water. Mix well and take this as the first intake in the morning. This helps in clearing the blood vessels and also prevents the formation of cholesterol, thereby reducing angina. Also taking lemon in any form is helpful.
Heat a handful of basil leaves in a glass of water. Strain and cool this mixture and add some honey to it. Consume it daily 2-3 times.
Garlic is the best cure for almost all types of heart problems. One should take 2-3 cloves of garlic daily in the morning as a preventive measure and for long term benefit. Add half tea spoon of garlic juice to a cup of hot water and drink it to fight angina.
Raw onion taken liberally, is helpful in bringing down the cholesterol level.
Boil one table spoon of grated ginger in a cup of water. Strain it and drink this tea. A small piece of raw ginger can be taken on an empty stomach daily to prevent angina and other cardiovascular diseases.
Cayenne pepper + Milk
Add one tea spoon of cayenne pepper to a glass of milk and drink it if you feel discomfort.
Parsley is ver effective remedy to treat angina. It can be consumed in various forms like tea, fresh leaves or even dried herbs.
Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties which makes it effective in dealing with angina. It also helps in reducing cholesterol oxidation, building up of plaque and formation of clots.
Alfalfa reduces cholesterol and plaque build-up. It helps to smooth out blood flow towards the heart. Alfalfa supplement or alfalfa tea can be taken ocassionally to fight angina.
Other Dos and don’ts
- Avoid Smoking.
- Avoid fried food and food with high cholestrol.
- Mild regular exercise should be a part of the daily routine.
- Small brisk walks are also helpful.
