In ayurveda, sandfly fever is known as Marumakshika Jwara. Sandfly is the common name of a flying, biting insect which sucks blood and is found in many countries. Sandfly fever is a short, sharp fever. It is also known as Three-Day Fever because of its duration which is usually three days. The most common time of this fever is during the junction of the seasons.
CAUSES AND SYMPTOMS
Sandfly fever is caused by the sandfly – a small or hair midge called Phlebotomus papatasi. As a symptom of sandfly fever one can notice that the temperature goes upto 40°C and returns back to normal after three days. There may also be a relapse in some cases. The pulse is weak and thready. Other symptoms of sandfly fever are
- Bloodshot eyes
- Chills and Shivering
- Flu-like symptoms
- Muscle pains
- A flushed face
- Joint pains
MEDICINES AND PRESCRIPTIONS
The ayurvedic medicines prescribed for the treatment of sandfly fever is
- 120 mg of Hinguleshwar, 240 mg of Amritasatva and 180 mg of Godanti Bhasma should be taken four times in a day with honey.
- 60 mg of Tamra Bhasma and 60 gm of Yakritap lilloda rad ilauha should be taken two times in a day, at mid day and night with honey.
DIET AND OTHER REGIMEN
As sandfly fever is not accompanied by any digestive disorders, there are not too many dietary restrictions. Even then, it is advisable to take soft and easily digestible foods. The patient should try to take proper rest and also see that his bowel functions normally. A mild laxative can be taken if there is constipation.
